Green card interview process introduced

Green card interview process introduced

  • From October 1, USCIS is planning to make a green card interview must for certain green card applicants.
  • The interview, will apply to anyone moving from an employment-based visa to permanent residency.
  • The rule also applies to visa holders who are family members of refugees or people who receive asylum.
  • The interview is part of President Donald Trump’s plan to apply “extreme vetting” to immigrants and visitors to the U.S.
  • The travel ban executive order signed by the president in January called for federal departments to develop “uniform screening and vetting” to identify people who “present a risk of causing harm.” The standards could include an interview.

Effect of Green card Interview

The green card interview is not new. Until 10 years ago, green card interviews were standard. But over the years USCIS issued waivers. The new policy grants no such waivers. The new process will lengthen wait times for green card applications.
