Sarahah user identity will be revealed if required, says app creator Tawfiq
arahah's anonymous nature is under scanner. Some reports making rounds on the internet claim that the app may reveal everyone's secret identity. Ever since such reports started to appear on the web, people are scared. They are looking forward to somehow delete their Sarahah account and remove all data or messages that they have sent out to others. But, sadly, something that has gone out on the internet once can never be removed. Similar is the case with Sarahah. So, the question that's bothering every Sarahah user, will Sarahah really reveal their identity? This is scary right?
Well, you heard it right. Yes it will. But, that's only under a certain situation. Sarahah app founder -- ZainAlabdin Tawfiq in an exclusive interview with the India Today Group said that they may reveal the identity of the sender if required. He notes that Sarahah is designed with strict privacy policy and promises to keep user data confidential. But, that's only to a certain limit. In their privacy policy Sarahah website mentions, "Sarahah won't disclose the identity of the logged-in senders to users except with their consent."
Sarahah is not end-to-end encrypted like WhatsApp. This means, messages sent out via WhatsApp will never be revealed at any given cost. Well, the scene isn't the same with Sarahah.
If there are violations of law and order, Sarahah will reveal the identity of the sender. "You can also read the terms and conditions on privacy policy regarding disclosure of information which clearly mentions to never reveal the senders' identity without his/her consent. But, if a sender violates the rules and regulations of the app, or some other similar incident we may be forced to reveal the details of the sender," notes Sarahah creator.
Oscar Wild once said, "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask and he will tell you the truth." This phrase fits perfectly when it comes to Sarahah. Like Tawfiq said, Sarahah is an application which is designed with the motto to allow people send constructive messages to one another. But, that's not what has been happening. There are reports circulating on the web which notes that Sarahah is being used as a means of cyber bully. Taking advantage of the anonymity nature of the application, people are using Sarahah to troll, bully and throw offensive comments at others. Going by some comments on Play store, there are some parents are raising complaints about their children being bullied on Sarahah. In one such comment a parent wrote, "My 13-year-old sister uses this and she got a death threat aimed at our 2-year-old brother." This is one of many such instances that are taking place on Sarahah. There are several similar incidents taking place on Sarahah.
So, if you don't abide by the terms and conditions of Sarahah, and misuse the app platform for bullying others, beware, you'll be caught soon. For instance, suppose A is planning to send an offensive message to bully or troll B. If B takes the message way too seriously and files a complaint against the sender of the message, Sarahah will reveal the all the details about A. After which A can face strict actions.
Sarahah users who are using the app just for fun and casual confessions, can go ahead and use the app with no fear. "If someone is following the rules everything is good we do have this commitment not to reveal the identity unless we get his consent," says Tawfiq. However, if you're misusing the app, you should really think before doing it the next time, or be ready to face strict consequences.Taking advantage of the anonymity nature of the Sarahah app that masks the identity of the message sender from the recipient, some third party apps like -- Sarahahexposer.com and Sarahahspyer.com are claiming that they will reveal the identity of the sender. To get it right off the bat, these apps are fake and doesn't reveal the senders identity at any given cost. Meanwhile, Sarahah has also revealed that, "all messages about revealing the sender's identity are fake." It is noteworthy that no third party app can reveal the details of the sender, until Sarahah wants it, that to under a certain circumstance.
Sarahah has become the new internet sensation. The app has gained wide popularity, and people are using it like crazy. Sarahah was introduced as an app on June 13 this year and within just 2 months time the app managed to get over 10 million downloads already. The app as said by Sarahah creator is aiming at sending "self-develop by receiving constructive anonymous feedback" and anyone misusing the platform to cyber bully others will face strict action.
