Whatsapp Beta Adds UPI Online Payments Feature
Ever since Facebook acquired Whatsapp, it has been adding a range of new features to the app. Previously, Whatsapp was just a simple app used to connect with your friends.
But now it has become like a mini social media network with a lot of new features like the new status and sharing for all file types.
The latest feature to make its way into the Whatsapp Beta update is the ability to make payment transfers right from Whatsapp
Starting from Whatsapp version 2.17.295 you might be able to make transfers between banks using your Whatsapp account.
According to Whatsapp blog, this feature is still under development and it has not been made public yet. So, even if you are on the latest beta update, you might not be able to spot this new payments feature.
What is UPI?
The new UPI is the Unified Payments Interface and it supports instant fund transfers between popular banks in India.
Whatsapp recently crossed the 1 billion active users per month mark and a significant percentage of these users are from India.
So, with over 200 million people using Whatsapp on a daily basis, the new UPI feature might actually prove to be useful.
If the feature rolls out to the stable version, many people could benefit from it as they do not have to face the hassle of using a separate app for making transfers.
When Can I Get It?
The Whatsapp blog has also mentioned that the users have to agree to the WhatsApp payments and bank terms and privacy policy if they ever intend to use the UPI transfers feature.
